Violin Lessons

The violin is a multi-faceted instrument.  Whether you are interested in learning how to play simple melodies or are on track to pursue a career in violin performance, I am able and eager to help you grow in both skill and musicianship.  With over 25 years of experience teaching, I take an individualized approach to students' needs and goals.  I take great joy in encouraging my students' potential for expression on this instrument.  Trained on Suzuki as a child, I utilize this same method for beginners, along with supplemental materials for variety.  In my studio, we focus on sequential skill-building, ear-training, and personalizing the music we learn.  Our violins are an extension of our voices, and we have many colors and articulations to explore.  My pedagogy for Classically-minded students is founded on a three-pronged approach: scales, etudes, and concert pieces.  This combination targets skill-building for the left and right hand independently, teaches music theory, improves ear-training, and exposes students to a broad range of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary repertoire.  I am able to coach on chamber music, orchestral repertoire, and solo works.

With a strong foundation in Classical music, I am also well-versed in Celtic, Old-time, and Bluegrass music.  Over the years, I have learned improvisational methods which have allowed me to collaborate on many exciting projects.  The world of improvisation and learning by ear is limitless.  If your interest in the violin, or shall I say “fiddle”, is to acquire new tunes, sit in on jams, or improve your improv, I would be delighted to teach you tools and tunes to boost your confidence and repertoire.

I offer trial lessons.  If you are interested in booking a lesson or signing up for consistent lessons, please reach out through my “Contact” page.  Currently in the 2025-2026 calendar year, I have studio openings on Mondays and Fridays.  I look forward to supporting and guiding you on your musical journey!
